Carol and Brian Carpenter

Since the Sport Pilot Rule was implemented in September of 2004, Carol and Brian Carpenter, owners of Rainbow Aviation Services, a full service FBO located in Corning California, have been on the cutting edge.  Today, they offer completed sport pilot services for airplane and a variety of services for weight shift and powered parachute aircraft as well

In accordance with FAA Order 8000.84, Carol and Brian have applied for and received acceptance of the first light Sport Repairman Maintenance course in the country. During the first three weeks of March 2006, Carol and Brian conducted the first course at their facility in Corning, California.  All sixteen pilots who attended the 120-hour airplane course received a repairman certificate. Carol and Brian now offer both the weight shift and powered parachute modules as well. They are currently working on the glider module.

The Carpenters, are uniquely qualified to teach the Repairman Course. The couple has co-authored two books: Sport Pilot Airplane: A Complete Guide and A Professional Approach to Ultralights.  Brian is an A&P aircraft mechanic with an Inspection Authorization rating (IA), a DAR for light sport and amateur built, a Sport Pilot Instructor Examiner, an FAA Certified Flight Instructor, an ultralight instructor and examiner, an EAA Technical Counselor and Flight Advisor. He has constructed several ultralight and experimental aircraft and is the designer and builder of the "Ranger" airplane, featured in several aviation publications. Carol is a Sport Pilot instructor, an  FAA Ground Instructor with an Advance Rating, a Repairman with a Maintenance Rating,  an ultralight instructor, an FAA private pilot, an FAA Fasst Team Representative, and she holds a California teaching credential. Together they have been presenting the Repairman Inspection 16 hour courses for airplane, weight shift, and powered parachute since last summer.

Carol and Brian are currently writing a set of 26 maintenance books to compliment the Repairman Courses.  Since the Maintenance Course requires a tremendous amount of hands-on supplies for the practical sessions, such as airframes, engines, propellers, tools, and other materials, it  isn’t feasible  to travel with the course, however they do travel with the 16 hour inspection courses.
